Summer Learning Journey – Centipedes – Kick Start

LI : Show your maths knowledge using centipede legs.

For this weeks Summer Learning Journey we learnt about the insect Centipede.

Manaiakalani challange us to create a DLO and answer the maths question in the box , the point for this task is to learn our maths and show our knowledge using centipedes legs. One thing I learnt about this task is that they are fast predators and vemonus so if they scratch you , you can get poison from their poison claws. Animals who hunt them is difficult because they are so small and hard to catch.

 

Spider web Summer Learning Journey

For this activity, We did one of our SLJ kickstart. This one was about the spider webs, We were challenged to draw a spider web with Pen and paper. The sipder web i created was a corner web. But first we watched a short video, and we found some interesting fact’s. But one fact iv’e learnt was ” Did you know that these webs aren’t just traps? They’re actually work of art. ”  Something i liked about this activty was when we got to create our own spider web and it was just a quick and easy activty to do. So up here is my corner web.

 

 

 

Summer Learning Journey

For the Summer Learning Journey Kickstart activity, I was challenged to choose an animal and create a graphic to share their superpowers. We used a presentation slide to create a poster to share more information about the animal, My animal I have chosen an octopus I chose it because it looked easy to do. We watched 10 animals and explored it, Something i liked about this activity was when we got to choose our own animal, And something I enjoyed was working on this.

 

Diarama

For this activity we created our own diarama. I chose the Polynesian Panthers, I chose it because it was easy to do and we already knew the story behind it. They story was, when the white people were treating our people unfairly, and they didn’t like it, This pic up here, Was a part that was sad and that showed no respect, because no one should be treated unfairly by other peoeple; Kids were watching as their own family’s were taken away, somepeople if they haven’t got their passport they will be deported back to the island. Something i enjoyed was getting to know more about the past an how we created our own diarama.

Moment in time ( Polynesian Panthers )

For this activity we did a moment in time. For my Moment in time i chose the Polynesian Panthers, I chose it because it was fun and interesting to research. Something i liked was when they stood up for their rights and had each others back. Something i didn’t like was when they were being rascist to our people. This is my Moment in time, And this story tells why white people were being rasict. 1 Interesting fact is They started homework centers for kids. And One thing iv’e injoyed was taking part in this.

Creatures SLJ ( Octopus )

For this Summer Learning Journey kick start activity, I was challenged to draw any creature animal. I chose the octopus, I chose it because it looked fun and interesting to learn. This is my Dumbo – Inky the name of my octopus. One thing I liked was how we were challenged to create something that was easy and hard at the same time. Something that I found hard was that when we had to find out what our creatures superpower is. And One interesting fact is, Most of its neurons are in its arms. Something I’ve found was Thye use the squid ink to defeat predators.

 

 

AI movie/day and night

For inquiry, we were challenged to use our smart searching skills to research day and night, creating an AI video to show the process. We watched 2 videos that explained the Earth’s rotation and revolution, day and time. One full rotation of the Earth is one day, the part facing the light is a day and the part in shadow is night. We used Hailuo AI to create our video that shows the earth rotating that is transferring from day to night by creating our own prompt. We enjoyed doing this activity because we get to use our skills to create a video by AI and get to know how time moves.

Waltzing Matilda Summary

For this task, First we made a swagman with A.I, We wrote a little sentence, To make the AI photo, We added, A lonely australian swagman  by a billabong , he trys to steals a sheep in his bag, then some troopers try to catch him. These are the things we used. This was reall fun to do, because my group got to create a AI photo. 

Something i found interesting was, when they told the stories about the Waltzing Matilda.

Time

Ancient time telling

LI: To explore how our ancestors measured time

For inquiry, we learned about ancient telling time (hourglass, sundial, clepsydra). We used our smart searching skills to research and create a DLO that tells us about ancient timekeeping devices. We were challenged to get into groups of 3, and to find out what our device will be. An hourglass was used in ancient times, some people call it sand time or sandglass. Sundial was created in Ancient Egypt around 15000 BC, people use this to connect to natural time or to teach them about the Earth’s rotation. Clepsydra is an ancient water clock that measures time. We watched a video that tells us the brief history of keeping time. We enjoyed doing this activity because we get to learn and understand the history of ancient times.

 

Shearer’s Strike

LI: To understand the story within the poem

LI: to understand both sides of an perspective

For this activty, we were set on a task. A task that was easy and hard at the same time. In our reading groups, We read a story about Shearers Strike, ( Waltzing Matilda ) After we answered all the questions, We got to make our own opinion based of what we read, We made a perspective A perspective B and our own Opinion. As reading this story, it was pretty sad, because it says workers were not getting enough, for the job, they were getting paid not enough money to feed there familys, So some workers quit, and they told other workers to stop working, and they stopped. Butt they had to go back to work, because they didn’t have much money to feed there family.

This story was fun to read, because even though you have money or no money just keep working and never give up.
